Fullness of Joy

Path through the woods around Rooksdown

Psalm 16:11

You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.

Fullness of Joy.

Pleasures forevermore at God’s right hand.

God makes known to us the path of life.

He promises to guide us.

In His presence- the theme of my heart and soul- ABIDE.

Living intentionally.

Choose God’s way.

Reminding myself through His Word that He gives good gifts.  His laws are not chains to bind us- but rather truths that set us free!

Numbers 14- the spies have gone and checked out the land that God has promised to give to the Israelites.  They see all the “big and tough” people there and they are filled with fear and doubt.  Even though Caleb and Joshua testify that God can give them the land (and that it is flowing with milk and honey) the people complain and rebel against God.

In fact, they were threatening to stone Caleb, Joshua, Moses, and Aaron (Num.14:10).

God tells Moses he is going to wipe the people out and just start over again because of their constant doubting and complaining.  Moses intervenes on behalf of the people.  God graciously extends forgiveness, but there are consequences for their unbelief.

They are never to enter into the land that God has promised.  They will die in the wilderness; their children will claim it.

As I was reading this today, I was reminded of what my pastor said several weeks ago during one of his sermons.

God forgives us when we fail to obey, but by choosing another path that leads to disobedience, we miss out on the blessings that God pours into the lives of those who obey.

This fullness of joy that he promises is not found outside of his presence.  When we choose another path- when our feet leave the path of life- there are consequences.

Just like we teach our children.  When we disobey there are consequences, and those consequences are not erased when we say sorry.  Saying sorry and asking forgiveness means we recognize that we made a wrong choice, but many times we still have to bear the natural consequences of the path we have chosen.

I don’t want to miss out on the blessings that God gives to those who obey.

Where are you today?

Are you seeking God’s presence and guidance?  In whatever you are facing, have you sought Him in prayer and in His Word?

Let’s claim his promises in our hearts and lives today and walk in fullness of joy!

Lord, I see so much of myself in the Israelites.  Their doubts.  Trusting what their eyes can see more than what you have promised us in your Word.  And we have additional blessings from you.  We have your Word, the history of how you have intervened on our behalf.  We have your Holy Spirit dwelling within us.  We have our advocate and Savior, Jesus Christ.  You have gone to great lengths to reconcile us to yourself- and yet we still fail to trust you.  Forgive us Lord.  As we seek you, firm up our steps.  Lead us in the path of life for your glory.  When fears and doubts assail us, strengthen our feet to run to our strong tower- You.  We will take shelter in the promises of your Word.  Help us take each thought captive Lord, and may your truth pierce through the lies and loose all the chains that keep us from fully and faithfully walking unhindered in your will today.  All praise and honor and glory is yours forever, our King and God.  In Jesus Precious Name, Amen.
