We have the opportunity to bless someone today. To touch their lives with the love of Jesus Christ. Each of us has been given gifts.
Let’s take another look at Romans 12:3-8
3 For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of you. 4 For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, 5 so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. 6 We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your faith; 7 if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach; 8 if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead, do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully.
Everyone has different gifts. That means that there may be ways that you will grow and mature in Christ and others may not feel the same conviction or be changed in the same way God has worked in you.
Look again- different gifts in accordance with grace given to each of us. We all have different strengths- and in that way we can bless our brothers and sisters.
We can live out of the gifts God has given us. We can send showers of blessing upon those around us through those gifts.
Let us patiently and lovingly walk with each other through this life. Not with expectations that their journey will be like ours.
We are all being convicted and shaped by God in unique ways according to our gifts and the work of the Holy Spirit in our lives.
I have been feeling convicted, because I will see people doing things that God has convicted me about- and I sometimes think- when are they going to get it?
Or that little sense of superiority sneaks in- b/c we have stopped that bad habit or do a better job of _________ (fill in the blank).
That is PRIDE. And it cannot live with love- they are directly opposed to each other. So, please my dear friends- let us aggressively attack that pride through the power of the Holy Spirit.
Submit yourself to God with me and let’s seek only to love the body of Christ- wherever they may be on the journey.
Let’s patiently and lovingly journey together and be an example to the world of what true love looks like.
O God, may our love be free of expectation or prejudice. May we throw off everything that hinders the outpouring of your Love through us- may our lives be a sweet fragrance to all who come near.
